Huawei P60 Pro Battery Review

Updated: Jul 12, 2023

The Huawei P60 Pro is powered by a 4,815 mAh Li-Po battery and according to gsmarena's independent tests, it scored an overall endurance rating of 96h. Here are the test result breakdown: 3G talk time (24:31h), web browsing over Wi-Fi (15:40h), video playback (15:54h). It's quite impressive even if it's not the best in this category.

Charging Speed

The Huawei P60 Pro comes with Huawei's 88W (20V/4.4A) SuperCharge charging brick in the box. There is an aditional support for 50W SuperCharge wireless charging. You'll agree with me that Huawei didn't spare anything in terms of charging speed for this phone. But that's not all, the P60 Pro's charging adapter also comes with two USB ports, one a USB-A port and the second, a USB-C port. The caveat here is that both ports can't be used at the same time. Finally, Huawei also bundled a USB-A-to-USB-C cable rated at 6A as part of the P60 Pro's retail package. You'll need that in order to achieve the full 88W fast charging speed on the P60 Pro.

The wireless charger is sold separately. You'll need a 50W Huawei SuperCharge wireless charging pad and a compatible charger to be able to achieve the full 50W wireless charging speed. That's according to Huawei's official web page for the P60 Pro.

The Huawei P60 Pro features a Turbo charging mode which allows you to utilize the full 88W fast charging for a longer period of time. You activate it by simply tapping and holding the charging bubble when the phone is on charge. There is no dedicated toggle for it in the Settings section.  However, the difference between that and the normal charging mode is minimal. You get 23% on a 5 mins charge (with and without Turbo mode turned on), a 15 mins charge will give you 58% and 51% respectively (Turbo mode on vs. Turbo mode off), a 30 mins charge brings the charging percentage up to 95% vs 86% (with vs. without Turbo mode). A full charge takes 35 mins and 39 mins respectively (with vs. without Turbo mode on too).

The phone gets noticeably warm while fast charging. While that's not a very big deal seeing that it is normal in most phones with fast charging technology, you might want to keep the Turbo mode off during charging because doing so may, in theoretical and practical analysis, put less strain on the battery and could be beneficial for your phone's battery health.

Other Features

The P60 Pro also features 7.5W reverse wireless and also reverse wired charging options. You can turn on the former in the Battery Settings if you want to make use of it. The caveat is to make sure that the phone you intend to charge using the reverse wireless charging route supports wireless charging.

Finally, the smartphone also has a feature called Smart Charge. Its job is to reduce the charging speed once it charges to 80%. You can modify the percentage cap to suit you preference, say 90% or more.

Final Verdict

I've looked at the Huawei P60 Pro's battery performance and I can say that, while it's not easily the very best in the industry, it still packs quite the punch. The 88W wired charging capability plus the accompanying 88W OEM charger are huge bonuses, not to mention very advantageous. Plus, if you're looking for something different from what Google has to offer in terms of it's own Android experience (the Google Play Service and it's suite of apps), recent Huawei devices are probably your best bet, and the P60 Pro is among the top devices you should be checking out if battery life and performance are a concern for you.
